On May 31, Make-A-Wish Foundation® partner Jewelers for Children will hold its inaugural Children’s Day to celebrate the children who benefit from its members’ charitable efforts. Since 1999, JFC has funded more than 1,100 wishes nationwide, and the Foundation plans to grant 75 wishes supported by the jewelers’ organization in 2009.

This year, for the Metro New York Chapter, Jewelers For Children helped to grant Joseph’s wish to “Swim with the Dolphins”.  Joseph, diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, which leaves him non-verbal and with limited mobility, loves being in water because it provides him with the greatest feeling of freedom. So when given the opportunity to choose an appropriate wish for her son, mom thought swimming with the dolphins would be a great experience.

Joseph and his family travelled to Island Dolphin Care in Key Largo to participate in their Dolphin Therapeutic program, which focuses on children like Joseph.  As it turned out, the program didn’t involve just Joseph, but the whole family.  As mom commented, “due to Joseph’s condition, there is very limited things we can do as a family and this was so great!”Jewelers for Children and its members have made it possible for the Metro New York chapter to bring hope, strength and joy to wish kids like Joseph. Their support during the past 10 years has made a significant difference in the lives of the courageous kids we serve.
