Meet Our Wish Kids

When Stephanie was 13, she was battling cancer.   Doctor visits, hospital stays, and cancer treatments took her away from most of the things a teenage girl would be able to enjoy.   But, then she was given a wonderful experience that no one else would ever have – the chance to fulfill her own dream.   In 1997, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® sent Stephanie and her family to California so that she could meet the cast of her favorite television program, “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

“Without question, it was the best week of my life because I had nothing to worry about and I was treated like gold.”   Stephanie was warmly greeted by the cast and crew of the popular television show, and she spent time with them all and watched as they rehearsed and filmed an episode on location.   Stephanie said, “My favorite part was the hug I got from the actor who played Dylan on the show.”

To round out the California experience for Stephanie and her family, they had unlimited fun for the rest of the week at amusement parks.   “I was treated like a VIP and I couldn't believe how special my family and I were treated.”

Now 21, Stephanie said the Foundation is a blessing to her, and will positively influence her future.   A student of fashion merchandising at Delaware University, Stephanie graduates next year, and her student internship with Marie Claire magazine was arranged through a board member for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York - Mary Alice Stephenson, who is a well-known figure in the fashion world.

Stephanie said, “The Foundation has always made me feel so cared-for, even though nearly 10 years have passed since my wish.   Someday, I will give back to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the way that they have given so much to me.   It is an organization that will be with me forever.”   Stephanie frequently participates in Make-A-Wish events and fundraisers by speaking about her wish experience, and how it has affected her life.

that there are more than 700 volunteers involved in virtually every aspect of the Foundation's operations, from wish granting to office operations, from fund raising to speaking engagements.
