Meet Our Wish Kids

When Make-A-Wish volunteers met Terri, she was a 17-year-old young lady battling an aggressive cancer.   Her mom said Terri hadn't smiled in months.   And then, a spark of excitement glowed behind her eyes when she wished to be a model for a day.

Terri was soon swept away in a limousine to a New York City studio where a magnificent day of beauty, style, and fashion was arranged for her through the contributions of Make-A-Wish Board member and fashion expert, Mary Alice Stephenson. Terri had her very own make-up artist, hairstylist, wardrobe expert, and photographer who all treated her like a supermodel.   Terri's mom said, “It was so impressive how everyone involved in the wish made it all about Terri.   They treated her like a princess.   She smiled like I had never, ever seen her smile before.”

Terri met a famous fashion designer and a famous model that day.   And when her wish granters discovered who Terri's favorite supermodel was, they arranged for the famous beauty to call Terri at the studio.   Terri was enthralled to be on the phone chatting with a fashion icon.   Her mom added, “It was wonderful to see my daughter happy again… happier than we ever expected, really.”   Now 19, she is studying fashion and merchandising as a freshman in college. She speaks at Foundation events and is planning to become a volunteer wish-granter in the near future.

that there are more than 700 volunteers involved in virtually every aspect of the Foundation's operations, from wish granting to office operations, from fund raising to speaking engagements.
