A tropical haven was the dream destination of 8-year-old Jake
, a wish child with an adventurous spirit and a joyful heart. Jake absolutely loves the water and marine life so his wish choice was none other than a visit to the Atlantis Resort Paradise Island, in the Bahamas - and a true paradise it was. “I couldn’t believe my eyes; I saw giant fish and sharks - even a Hammerhead Shark,” Jake remembers, still filled with excitement.
The courageous little guy rode on Atlantis’ tallest waterslide, a gravity-defying steep ride that has many adults turning away. “I loved the water slide! I wasn’t afraid because I’m brave,” Jake proudly claims.
His adventures didn’t stop there. Jake, who is diagnosed with leukemia, says he and his big brother Kenny tried all of the water slides at the resort. When he wasn’t sliding, he swam in the ocean and “in all of the hotel pools!”
After all those adventures it was time for much needed R & R so he and his family took a break relaxing on water tubes that spiral gently across a wading pool. Ever full of energy, Jake didn’t want to sit still for too long, though. “We went to the Aquarium; I can’t believe how many different types of fish there are.” He remembers being amazed by this discovery.
Jake’s mom simply says that the trip was “a dream-come-true” for Jake and their family. “I think it’s just wonderful what the Make-A-Wish Foundation®
does. Honestly, we could never have done a trip like this without the help of Make-A-Wish®
. It means so much to us all.” Jake adds with his usual enthusiasm, “It was the best!”
