Eleven-year-old Jake, who is diagnosed with malignant neoplasms had fond memories of a trip with this family to St. Martin, even though he had been very young then. The videos his parents took are shown often at the family’s home, to relive the great time they all had. With that, when offered to have his most heartfelt wish granted, Jake wished to return to that fabulous time and place and repeat the experience.
For Jake, the best part of this wish trip was being with his family. As a young boy who loves to swim, he enjoyed being at the beach with the big waves as well as the pool, where swimming was easier. He also recalls the joy of touring the island by car.
Another favorite part of his trip was the variety of foods available at the hotel’s food buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Never before had he had so many choices! Needless to say, he especially liked the desserts, loading up his plate with a big, happy smile.
Jake was accompanied by his dad, mom and sister and the entire family agrees that the adventures throughout their trip were the best times they’ve had since Jake got sick. They keep on talking about their experiences now that they’re back and how happy they were in St. Martin. Jake loves watching the new videos and sharing them with his little sister.
Although Jake relapsed upon returning from the trip, the operation he had was a success. Tests so far have proven Jake to be disease-free. More tests are to come but Jake still has his “smiley” face on and dreams about St. Martin all the time, wondering when he and his family will go back again.
