had always dreamed of going on a shopping spree: one where he could shop endlessly in luxury stores that he’d only ever dreamed of, such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Durell’s dream became a reality, when Make-A-Wish®
entered his life and offered him the opportunity of a lifetime: a shopping spree in New York City!
Durell was ecstatic when a limousine came to pick him and his mother up for his grand day of shopping. Excitedly, he reports, “I loved being able to experience being in a limousine. I’d never been in one before, it was amazing!” His shopping spree was, to say the least, quite a success! Durell bought a shirt at Louis Vuitton, a sweater at Adidas, and an array of shoes and belts at Gucci. He claims that his favorite items are his stylish and functional Gucci belts. He enthusiastically describes that the shopping spree made him so happy, saying, “I won’t ever forget my shopping spree. It was more than anything I had hoped for; I really couldn’t ask for anything more.”
Durell’s mother, Lou Edith, who accompanied him on his wish experience, comments on her son’s happiness ever since his wish was granted: “I’m finally seeing him so happy and so excited. He has never had someone give him whatever he wanted, and Make-A-Wish was able to do just that. Make-A-Wish gave him that one experience in life that he wouldn’t have otherwise been able to have had.” The best part of Durell’s wish, as he explains, was “the company I kept!” He goes on to say how having his mother and the “amazingly nice and wonderful” wish volunteers by his side made his shopping spree incredibly memorable and special.
