Ever since he was a little boy, 9-year-old Aiden has loved the New York Yankees. Growing up in a family whose favorite sports team was the New York Yankees, inspired Aiden to carry on the family tradition. When Make-A-Wish came into Aiden’s life, he knew just what he was going to wish for. With a huge smile on his face, Aiden chose to meet the players of the New York Yankees baseball team.
At 8-years-old, Aiden was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He quickly began chemotherapy and radiation treatment, but it took a toll on his body, especially his legs. That didn’t stop Aiden from having the time of his life while visiting Yankee Stadium in New York City. “That was the happiest I’ve seen Aiden in a while,” explains Aiden’s mom, Heidi. “It was amazing, and he was just so happy!”
At the stadium, Aiden was able to walk onto the field with his Uncle Josh and meet some of the players. He also got autographs from his favorite players, and took photos. Heidi remembers, “As Aiden and his uncle were getting ready to exit the field, the Manager of the New York Yankees, Joe Girardi, ran over and asked for a picture with them - how incredible! Aiden was so excited.”
During their stay in New York City, Aiden and his family also enjoyed a tour of the New York City Police Museum, and a fun-filled night at Dave & Buster’s. “Aiden was so happy because he was able to play all the games and enjoyed winning different prizes. When they brought him a huge plate full of crab legs, he was in heaven,” exclaims Mom.
For Aiden and his family, this wish experience was so much more than the moment of having his wish come true. Heidi explains, “All in all, the entire experience of being there with his uncle, having that time away without having to think about doctors, where Aiden could just feel like a kid for a minute - it was incredible.” She adds, “It was an experience none of us will ever forget.”
