On Sunday, September 7, 2014, more than 500 community members, wish families and supporters gathered in Eisenhower Park for the inaugural 5K Make-A-Wish Walk For Wishes® benefiting Make-A-Wish Metro New York. The walk aimed to raise awareness and funds to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
The weather could not have been better and participants enjoyed the heartwarming speech of former wish kid Gabriella
, who shared how much her wish still impacts her to this day. Adding to the family-friendly, fun atmosphere in the park were two bouncy houses, face painters, and a photo booth where participants could have their picture taken, share it on their social media site and also get a print.
Walking teams included a strong showing from Hewlett High School
students as well as wish families past and present. The event planning committee was headed by Long Island local and Make-A-Wish Metro New York Advisory Board member Domenique Camacho Moran, Partner, Farrell Fritz, P.C.,
whose efforts, connections and expertise contributed greatly to the overall success.
With checks still coming in, to date Walk For Wishes
® raised $122,000
to help make wishes come true. “This has been such an inspiring, joyful day,” commented Pat Clemency
, President and CEO Make-A-Wish Metro New York and Western New York. “We are in awe of the level of our community’s participation and support and look forward to next year’s Walk for Wishes
