National Association of Professional Organizers donates to Make-A-Wish

National Association of Professional Organizers
Lake Success, July 7, 2016 – Fifteen professional organizers from Long Island recently donated their skills and services to Make-A-Wish, an organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Members of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) celebrated National Get Organized (GO) Month in April this year by providing four days of free organizing service to Make-A-Wish Metro New York and Western New York, headquartered in Lake Success. GO Month raises awareness of the benefits of hiring a professional organizer and getting organized.

The goal of this year’s event was to organize an oversized storage room that houses toys, children’s books, art supplies, travel items, costumes and much, much more, donated by individuals and corporations. The items are used as ice-breaker gifts when volunteers visit wish kids and for enhancement gifts given when the wish is being granted.

In addition, the room stores all marketing and fundraising materials. Every item in the room was reviewed, sorted, purged with Make-A-Wish staff, and then re-organized to provide easy access for volunteers and staff. “Now it’s easy to ‘shop’ in the storage room and deliver gifts to kids receiving wishes. Through the generosity of our donors, and the heroic efforts of our volunteers, we are able to provide our kids wonderful gifts in the theme of their wish as they await their big day,” said Gina Florescu, the chapter’s Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications.

Diana Soll of Grand Solutions LLC, one of the professional organizers from Roslyn Heights who oversaw the four day event said, “It’s amazing what can be accomplished when people come together for a great cause.  When a space is organized, it not only provides easy accessibility, it generates positive energy.”

In four days, NAPO organizers:

    • Sorted and grouped thousands of toys and items of clothing
    • Built storage shelves and set up the storage room like a toy store
    • Sorted, grouped and reorganized all fundraising and marketing materials

“Having 15 professionals volunteer their time and resources for four days to our organization is an amazing philanthropic model and a ‘wish’ that came true for us,” said Florescu.
