Lilly Wished to be a Zookeeper

Lilly
Lilly’s refuge from the rigors of cancer treatment was to get lost in the TV show, “The Zoo,” set at the Bronx Zoo.

She was diagnosed with leukemia last September and has endured multiple rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, which kept her in and out of St. Jude's Children's Hospital over the past year. Watching “The Zoo” on Animal Planet kept her distracted and entertained throughout it all.

The 11-year-old has a deep love of animals and a passion for taking care of them. Her one and only wish was to be a zookeeper at the Bronx Zoo. She knew it was something she could never do on her own.

The Bronx Zoo’s newest zookeeper wasted no time getting to work. Lilly and her best friend and sister Addison worked hard to feed the alpacas, goats, sheep, and cows. She learned about their diets, habitats, and what makes each one of them special. Then she got up close and personal with a new crew of friends: emu, fennec foxes, porcupine, sloth, and warthog. Her mom, Jennifer, said it was an amazing adventure.

For a few precious hours, Lilly was transformed. She felt great - here was no stress or worry. And when she was Zookeeper Lilly, she had the time of her life.
